The 2023 Tau Jarys cross-country race took place this year for the second time in Almaty Region. Tau Jarys is  not only a mountain run, but a family festival as well, which invited everyone to take part in the entertainment programme, enjoy delicious food and feel the vibrant atmosphere of the competition!

This year, the run offered children’s distance of 2 km (for those aged from 10 to 14) and adult’s distances of 6 and 12 km (for those aged 15 and over). The run provided sports fans with a great opportunity to try the new format. The track crossed the picturesque terrain at the Alatau Ski & Biathlon Complex.

Rakhimzhan Kelmanov, who passed the distance for 43 minutes and 42 seconds, and Dana Gussanova with her time of 53 minutes and 7 seconds have become absolute winners in the 12-km race among men and women, respectively. As for the 6-km distance, Nurisbek Seksembay (23 minutes and 42 seconds) and Diana Aidossova (27 minutes and 53 seconds) proved to be the fastest male and female runners.

Olzhas Karim (7 minutes and 51 seconds) among boys and Pandora Mens (8 minutes 34 seconds) among girls were recognised winners of the 2-km children’s race.

Over 100 athletes took the prize-winning places in age categories and all participants received finisher’s medals. The run results are published on almaty-marathon.kz.

The top three female and male winners in each distance were awarded cash prizes (KZT 130, 100 and 70 thousand for the 12-km distance and KZT 70, 50, 30 thousand for the 6-km distance), diplomas and gifts from partners.

“Tau Jarys is a real sport festival, where participants and guests of the competition could come with their families, have a good time, enjoy the atmosphere, socialise with sports fans, participate in various activities and have a delicious lunch,” comments Saltanat Kazybayeva, Organiser, Director of “Courage to be the First” Corporate Fund.

“This is the second time I’ve taken part in the mountain run and I’m really happy to have such an experience. Seeing beautiful locations, overcoming yourself every kilometre and finally reaching the desired finish line. The support provided by volunteers and organisers on the track was invaluable. I’d like to say many thanks for such a sports event, and I’d like to see new routes, new races every year and want the amateur sport to develop further in Kazakhstan,” says Tau Jarys runner Bakhytzhan Nurpeissov.
