On 6 August 2023, Almaty will host the Tour of World Class Almaty, a cycle race for amateur riders, giving each its participant an opportunity to feel like a real cyclist and demonstrate all your capabilities.
The competition is organized by “Courage to be the First” Corporate Fund, an organizer of the annual Almaty Marathon. The registration is now open at almaty-marathon.kz.
Participants will have a chance to ride a road or mountain (MTB) bike. A 32-km distance is designated for road and mountain bikers aged 18+. A 52-km distance is for road bikers aged 18+. And finally, a 14-km distance is intended specifically for children aged 12-17.
The athletes will ride along a perfectly beautiful track. Its main advantage is that there are no any sharp 180-degree turns simply because all turns are mapped on new road junctions. This is why many cyclists will be able to update their personal bests.
The riders will start their race at the square in front of Mega Alma-Ata Shopping Mall and will ride up Rozybakiyev Street, then along Al-Farabi Avenue and Eastern Bypass Highway. Then they will pass Halyk Arena Ice Palace and head back at the road junction on Ryskulov Avenue. The 32-km distance riders will cycle along Al-Farabi Avenue and then head towards the finish line, whereas the 52-km distance riders will keep cycling further along Sain Street up to Ryskulov Avenue, reaching which they will take the opposite direction and return to Rozybakiyev Street, finally heading towards the finish line.
“This year the well-loved Tour of World Class Almaty will bring together nearly 800 participants from all over Kazakhstan and the world. The number of cycling fans has increased several times over the recent time. Cycling has become popular all over Kazakhstan and every year our race attracts not only Kazakhstani, but foreign guests as well, thus helping develop tourism,” noted Saltanat Kazybayeva, Race Director.
You can register and pay a participation fee on the website until 31 July. Entry fee: 52 km – KZT 15,000, 32 km – KZT 12,000 and 14 km – KZT 10,000.
Overall winners for the 52-km distance will be awarded cash prizes, medals, diplomas and valuable prizes. Winners in the age categories for 52 km, 32 km and 14 km will be awarded medals, diplomas and valuable prizes. All finishers of the cycle race will receive commemorative medals.
We would like to note that in 2022, the winner in the 52-km overall standings among road bikers was Nikita Fedotovskih showing the best result of 1 hour 18 minutes and the fastest among women was Yekaterina Shatnaya (1 hour 27 minutes).
