29 June 2024 was the day when for the fourth time Almaty Region hosted the Tau Jarys the largest mountain run and a family festival by “Courage to Be the First” Corporate Fund. A total of 1,500 people keen on trail running coming from 15 countries toed the starting line.

The most true-hearted fans of Almaty mountains and trail running got together at 7 a.m. on the territory of Alatau Cross Country Skiing and Biathlon Stadium (Almaty Region). Young participants aged 10–14 are getting ready to start the children distance of 2 km, and adults – the routes with the length of 6 and 12 km. The spectacular scenery promises an unforgettable experience of a sporting competition and a festive event.

“Yearly the Tau Jarys is an opportunity to have an active and productive weekend with your family and friends in the midst of nature and festive atmosphere. All our events have a specific aim, so as more people would get a feel for sports and share those warm memories with their close ones, and the Tau Jarys is of no exception. It is where the participants enjoy the beauty of Almaty mountains, unwind after the hustle and bustle of the city and, of course, run at their own leisure and to set their personal records. Such events also promote local tourism,” stressed the Executive Director of “Courage to Be the First” Corporate Fund, Saltanat Kazybayeva.

1,500 people from 15 countries listed below took part in the Tau Jarys run: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Australia.

A participant of the open workout sessions by Almaty Marathon, Symbat Mynbossyn, came to the Tau Jarys with A’SU Team:

“I feel great! It is my first time taking part in this run and I like everything so much. I think I will be able to cover the distance faster than planned initially. I wish everyone to have a great time here, since the organization is a top-level.”

This is also the second time when the Open Championship of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Nordic (pole) walking (5 and 10 km distances) takes place as a part of the Tau Jarys. Its winners will be selected to make a national team in Nordic walking.

“I have been doing sports for around 10 years now and I try to do it regularly. I came here today because I wanted to feel the atmosphere of a large festive sporting event. I often visit Alatau Cross Country Skiing and Biathlon Stadium, but this is the first time I witness so many people here. Even the Asian Games did not have that many. It is really great that mass sporting events become so popular in Almaty and in the whole country. All this is about health and a nice thrill. I love it and support it,” tells 60-year-old Andrey Porodnov.

The first finishers of 6 km distance for adults were Yerkebulan Akhmadiyev from Semey (00:24:08.80) among men and Arina Gladysheva from Almaty (00:28:13.10) among women. The absolute winners of 12 km distance were Rakhymzhan Kelmanov from Almaty (00:46:21.00) among men and Katerina Vassilchinko from Ukraine (00:57:11.10) among women. The Certificates of Achievement, Money Certificates and gifts from the Partners came to the first three winners of each distance in men and women categories.

A patron-participant of Almaty Marathon starts – Yerzhan Abdikadirov, runs with his kids this time:

“This is my fourth participation in the Tau Jarys. I am in a great mood! I came here with my family. My middle son has hit the distance of 2 km. The weather is awesome and hot!” shares the athlete.

A beautiful medal shines on each finisher’s neck. The photographs and results are available on the website almaty-marathon.kz.

Please note that registration for the Summer Relay that will take place on 26 July in Almaty continues. And on 28 September, the mountain capital awaits to welcome runners to the largest start of Central Asia Almaty Marathon.
