Almaty gathered 16,149 runners from all around the world the past Sunday. The fourteenth Almaty Marathon has become a bright sporting holiday and given new records.
1,363 foreign participants from 60 countries crossed the starting line. The leaders in terms of the number of representatives became Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and China – it is a record-breaking number of foreign runners during the entire marathon history.
One more record was set on the main distance: 1,500 sportsmen covered the marathon distance of 42.2 km.
The strongest athletes shared the prize places. A Ukrainian, Vitaly Shafar, showed a new record on the route – 2:19:38. A Russian sportswoman, Anastassiya Derkach, finished with the result of 2:41:24, setting the Almaty Marathon woman record.
The best result of the Half Marathon distance (21.1 km) was shown by a Kyrgyzstani, Nursultan Keneshbekov – 1:02:44. He outrun Rinas Akhmadeyev from Tatarstan.
A special achievement was also recorded in the Ekiden relay race: the Kazakhstan MASTERS team entered the Kazakhstan Book of Records as the oldest team in the history. The total age of its six participants has been 425. The team participants: Ulan Khassenov (83), Marat Baltabayev (78), Amegulsin Mussylmanova (77), Bakytzhan Bektenov (65), Aitkali Orynbassarov (66), and Sunkar Karabalin (56).
